Project Summary
A Municipal Traffic Signal Program will be developed to decrease energy and maintenance costs associated with vehicular traffic signals, which are located in municipalities throughout Washington County. A total of 59 incandescent vehicular signals that are owned by the municipalities will be replaced with new energy efficient Light Emitting Diodes (LED) module signals. The Washington County program will be modeled after the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission's (SPC) Regional Traffic Signal Program. SPC is the 10-county region's official Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO). A 20% match will be required of each municipality, which is approximately equal to the estimated annual reduction in electric costs. Additionally, municipalities that have a population with 50% or more low moderate incomes may be able to use HUD Community Development Block Grant funds for the match.
