The Purchasing Department has, under the authority of the Board of the County Commissioners, the sole authority and responsibility for the purchase of the county's government needs in terms of supplies, materials, equipment, and certain services. All purchases of such items must be made through the purchasing department.
The objective of this office is to remain cost efficient by obtaining the best price for the best product and in accordance with the County Code. Purchase orders, bids, contracts, leases, surplus property, and inventory of assets are included in the responsibilities that are accounted for in the Purchasing Office. All purchases of goods or services for the county exceeding an aggregate amount of $18,500 are publicly advertised for bidding.
In accordance with state and county regulations, public auctions are held when necessary for the sale of surplus property. The Purchasing Office also serves as the central mail room and copying room for the county.
