The Washington County Airport is a county owned and operated facility located in South Franklin Township. The airport serves as a reliever for other airports such as Allegheny and Pittsburgh International. Situated on 365 acres, the airport is home to 100 aircraft, 37 T-hangers, seven corporate hangars and seven businesses that employ approximately thirty people.
The airport has a runway that is 5000 feet in length, a full parallel taxiway system that is fully lit for night operations. The airport has a partial electronic guidance system consisting of a Localizer, Distance Measurement System (DME) and Nondirectional Beacon (NDB). The non-precision approach is available as well. Also, the airport has a Remote Communications Outlet (RCO) and an automated Weather Observation System. The recent installation of the first Instrument Landing System (ILS) approved by the FAA will be operating in 2003.
