Washington County Hospital Authority


 

The Washington County Hospital Authority was created in 1976 under the Pennsylvania Municipality Authorities Act of 1945. Its purposes as set forth in Section 4(f) of the Articles of Incorporation are to acquire, hold, construct, improve, maintain, finance, own, operate and lease, as lessor or lessee, hospitals, health centers and related facilities, including buildings and equipment or parts thereof and to undertake other projects for hospital or health care purposes, in Washington County or outside of Washington County; provided that the Authority may undertake such projects only if the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Washington declares by resolution that it is desirable for the health and safety of the people in the area served by such project to have such project provided by the Authority.

Projects have included Canonsburg General Hospital, Monongahela Valley Hospital, The Washington Hospital, Cornerstone Care (formerly Community Medical Center of Northwest Washington County, Inc.), Shadyside Hospital, Eye and Ear Hospital of Pittsburgh, and The Reading Hospital and Medical Center.
