Larry Maggi is currently serving his third term on the Board of Commissioners of Washington County and currently serving as the board chairman. He is proud to have been born, raised, educated, and working most of his life in Washington County. Commissioner Maggi believes in Washington County and that it is a great place to work, live, play, and raise families. He is committed to keeping Washington County on the fore front in jobs, low taxes, and quality of life issues as well as keeping our agricultural and country charm.

Commissioner Maggi served proudly in the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1971. He graduated from California University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science degree in education. Prior to being elected commissioner in 2003, he was the sheriff of Washington County for six years, elected in 1997. He served for 24 years with the Pennsylvania State Police as a state trooper. In the last 10 years of his career with the state police he served as a criminal investigator with Troop B in Washington, Pennsylvania.

Personal Life

Commissioner Maggi and his wife Mary Jeanne reside in Buffalo Township. They have four children, and three grandchildren. He is active in the Claysville United Methodist Church in Claysville, serving on its Board of Trustees, Lay Speaker, liturgist, and Sunday school for 18 years.

  • 2007 - Good Citizens award from the Boy Scouts of America, Mon Valley District
  • 2008 - Medallion of Distinction Award from the California University of Pennsylvania
  • 2009 - Sgt Karl Taylor Award from Marine Corps Leagues S
  • 2010 - Inducted into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of fame, Washington / Greene County Chapter
  • 2012 - President's Award from Washington County Fireman's Association
  • 2012 - Tri-County Athletic Director's Award for Excellence in Officiating
  • 2013 - Honoree, Pennsylvania Trolley Museum Roast
  • 2014 - Inducted into the WPIAL Hall of Fame for serving more than 40 years as a wrestling official
